Snorkmaiden and the Treasure Chest Moomin mug was in production in 2001–2012.

The Snorkmaiden and the Treasure Chest mug is old enough that pieces with a label are relatively rare. Because of this, labeled mugs are clearly priced higher than unlabeled ones. On the yellow background, factory flaws such as small black dots are especially easy to see, so after Finmug’s inspection the mug rarely lands in the “super good” category.

Especially desirable are mugs made in 2001 with the year marked on the base. Mugs with a Made in Finland label are also very rare and valuable. All labels for this mug say “Snorkmaiden” even though the mug is commonly known as “Snorkmaiden and the Treasure Chest” or “Yellow Snorkmaiden.”

Although the mug is discontinued, you can still spot it at Finmug with different labels, base marks, and condition grades. The Yellow Snorkmaiden set also includes a bowl and a plate. The Snorkmaiden mug line continued after this with the Pink and the Lilac Snorkmaiden.

Story of the Snorkmaiden and the Treasure Chest Moomin mug

The yellow Snorkmaiden and the Treasure Chest mug brings sparkle and a spirit of adventure to the Moomin world. On the front, Snorkmaiden admires a chest full of glittering brocade jewelry that Moomintroll found on a pirate ship — a perfect find for jewelry-loving Snorkmaiden. The illustration for this yellow Snorkmaiden mug is taken from the comic Moomin on the Riviera. On the other side, Snorkmaiden lounges on the grass daydreaming about romance, reflecting her dreamy nature. Tove Slotte selected the imagery from Jansson’s comics that best portray Snorkmaiden’s character. A special detail of this mug highlights the Snorks’ unique trait — their ability to change color according to their feelings. Even though this yellow mug is only one of Snorkmaiden’s many hues, it is still a unique collector’s piece and a tribute to her multifaceted personality.
