Older Thingumy and Bob Moomin mug was in production 2005–2017. A matching bowl and plate were released in the same series. Although the label simply says “Thingumy and Bob”, collectors commonly call it older Thingumy and Bob to distinguish it from the later “Red Ruby” version. The mug exists with three different labels and two different base stamps. Pieces with a “Made in Finland” label are particularly rare and sought-after.
Thingumy and Bob aren’t among the most popular Moomin characters, which is reflected in the mug’s relatively modest value. Because of the light background, tiny factory flaws (like small black specks) are easy to spot, so these mugs often don’t make it into the top “Supergood” condition category.

The mug features Thingumy and Bob from Finn Family Moomintroll: they almost always move together and cling tightly to their mysterious suitcase. On the mug they sit together with the suitcase among flowers. Tove Slotte selected the original figures from Finn Family Moomintroll, while the backs shown on the other side of the mug are Slotte’s own design, created in Jansson’s spirit. In 2018 a new version was released with brighter colours and the suitcase’s mysterious contents finally revealed.

  • Just fine: in good condition, the glaze may have traces of use
  • Well used: really used or clearly 2-quality

  • Fin/Thai: The label says Iittala Group / Arabia.fi / product name
  • Finland: The label says Made in Finland⭐
  • Thailand: The label says Designed in Finland. Made in Thailand.
  • Thailand (Gold/Red/Green): 2017-2021 summer season mugs have also color options
