Muumimukissa "Perhe" esiintyy. Muumipapan, Muumimamman, Muumipeikon, Niiskuneidin ja Pikku Myyn kera. Mukin alkuperäinen kuvitus koostuu Tove ja Lars Janssonin useista teoksista, mukaan lukien sarjakuvat "Muumipeikko ja pyrstötähti" ja "Aloitamme uuden elämän", sekä Tove Janssonin romaani "Taikatalvi". Lars Janssonin harvinaisempi sarjakuva "Muumipappa vanhuuden porteilla" on myös otettu osaksi mukin visuaalista ilmettä. Mukin kuvituksessa huomattava muutos on Muumimamman perinteisen kukkaseppeleen puuttuminen, mikä on Tove Slotten tarkoituksellinen muokkaus.
