The Hemulen Yellow Moomin mug (0.3 L) has been on sale since 2023.

Known as a botanist, the Hemulen received a fresh interpretation in 2023 when Arabia released its newest yellow Moomin mug. And we can finally breathe a sigh of relief: fans had been waiting for years—the previous Hemulen character mug left production already in 2013. For ten long years, the Hemulen had to wait for a new appearance on a Moomin mug.

Now the Hemulen really does return to production. This yellow Moomin mug stands out with its delightful colour scheme. The illustration is based on Tove Jansson’s masterpiece Finn Family Moomintroll (1948). In this story, the Moomins go adventuring on the Hattifatteners’ island, accompanied by the Hemulen, the passionate botanist.

If we dig deeper into the Hemulen’s story, we notice that he hasn’t always been a lover of plants. Imagine a Hemulen who feels melancholic because he has already fulfilled his dream of completing a perfect stamp collection — and now has nothing left to do. That is, until Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden inspire him to take on a new passion: plants!

An interesting detail: on the base of the mug appears the Hemulen’s name in English — “Hemulen”. Amusingly, this name also works in Swedish and Norwegian!
