Love Moomin Mug (0.3 L) is the only Moomin mug from the 1990s still in production. The set also includes a matching bowl, spoon, a plate that has since been discontinued, and a mini mug released in 2024. Especially sought after are the earliest well-kept pieces with the 1996 crown base mark, as well as versions with “Made in Finland” and the MOOMIN 75 gold mark. There are numerous variants of this mug, as no other mug exists with four different base marks. It was also issued with three different labels, which makes the number of variations large. Mugs with a “Thailand” label were made in Thailand, while those with a “Fin/Thai” label may have been made either in Finland or Thailand. Because of the pale pink solid background, possible factory imperfections such as tiny black dots are easy to spot, so completely flawless “super good” mugs are a bit rarer.

According to Tove Slotte, the Love mug is an excellent gift idea and many collectors started their collection with this very mug. In 2024 Arabia also released a new light-blue version. This classic fits both daily use and any collection.

The Love Moomin mug is among Arabia’s most popular of all time and still one of the best sellers. Its popularity comes not only from the sweet, romantic artwork but also from its meaning as a symbol of love and care. On one side Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden embrace and on the other they sit close together. The artwork was composed by Tove Slotte by combining elements from Tove and Lars Jansson’s comic strips Snorkmaiden in Rococo and House Building, and from Tove Jansson’s comics Jungle Life and Moomintroll and the Martians. The hugging Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden is one of the most famous and beloved Moomin images.
