Ninny, powder Moomin mug is commonly known simply as “Ninny,” since there are no other Ninny mugs. (Ninny also appears on the 0.4 L J alphabet mug.) The pale powder-coloured mug comes with matching bowl and plate. Versions with the “MOOMIN 75” gold backstamp are rare and valuable among collectors. Because the background is a light solid colour, small factory flaws—like tiny black dots—are easy to see, so the mug doesn’t always meet Finmug’s strict Supergood criteria. The mugs are designed in Finland; pieces with a “Thailand” label are manufactured in Thailand. Thanks to its affordable price, this mug is great for everyday use.

The illustration comes from Tove Jansson’s touching short story “The Invisible Child” (1962), part of the collection Tales from Moominvalley. The mug shows the delicate and beloved Ninny, who in the story learns to become visible with the Moomin family’s gentle help. On one side Ninny sits on a rock; on the other she climbs a staircase—steps toward a more visible future.
