Winter Night Moomin mug is one of the most valuable and rare winter season mugs. It inaugurated the hugely popular winter season series in 2006. Collectors prize it for its beautiful artwork and small production run. The Winter Night mugs were exceptionally made in Finland; that’s why only this one and Hibernation carry a “Made in Finland” sticker. Before 2016, Moomin mugs were produced both in Finland and Thailand, so others may also have been made in Finland even if Arabia didn’t print the country on the sticker. A matching Winter Night plate was released later as part of a collectible plate set. Because of the solid dark-blue ground, Finmug’s inspection finds even tiny factory specks easily, so top-grade pieces are harder to find.

Starting in 2006, seasonal mugs received large, colorful “Seasonal Product” stickers with the year, a practice that continues on all summer and winter season mugs. Given the limited run and distinctive artwork, the value of Winter Night is expected to keep rising—an essential piece for any Moomin collection!

The artwork shows Moomintroll sitting on a bridge, admiring the calm beauty of a snowy night. Designer Tove Slotte combined elements from several Tove Jansson sources: the bridge scene comes from Moominland Midwinter, with additional details chosen from the comic #20Moomin at Sea and the novel Finn Family Moomintroll.
