Brown Sniff Moomin mug was in production in 2002–2008.

This was the first mug featuring Sniff in Arabia’s Moomin mug line. Although the label says “Sniff”, the mug is better known as “Brown Sniff”. The series also includes a bowl and a plate. Brown Sniff is especially popular among collectors thanks to its beautiful colour and scarce availability. Mugs with a “Made in Finland” label are rare and valuable.
Because of the solid background, signs of use show clearly, which makes top-condition pieces scarce and sought after. Label-free mugs often end up in the “heavily used” condition category, and even labeled mugs can have a darker ring around the rim, making “super good” examples hard to find.
After this mug, other Sniff mugs were released, such as “Turquoise Sniff” and “Sniff on the Beach”.

The Brown Sniff mug shows Sniff, known for his love of all things valuable and shiny. Tove Slotte’s artwork on the mug is taken from Tove and Lars Jansson’s comics Moomin and the Comet and The Moomin Family, where Sniff’s fascination with glittering objects is central. On one side Sniff is pictured with coins in his arms, symbolising his hoarding of treasures, and on the other he appears with a cat, reflecting his playful and curious nature.

The mug left production in 2008, and its relatively short run makes it one of the more valuable and desired Moomin mugs today.
