Arabia’s Moomin Mug Peace is a 0.3-litre Moomin mug that was produced from 1996 to 2002, and it is discontinued. The same series also includes a plate that is part of a collector’s plate set, as well as a 0.4-litre mug. Peace is one of the most popular and valuable Moomin mugs from the 1990s, and it has long been a particular favourite among collectors.

This mug was produced only with the crown stamp, and mugs from 1996 also have the year mark on the base. Examples that still retain the original Made in Finland label are rare, sought-after and valuable, because a label that has survived since the 1990s is exceptional.

On Moomin mugs from the 1990s, small production marks are often easier to see than on newer mugs, and with age many examples have also developed signs of use. That is why there are very few Peace mugs in the Supergood category. A mug in this category has practically no signs of use and no visible factory flaws. Even mugs in the Just fine category can, for this period, show slightly more signs of use than newer Moomin mugs in the same category.

The light blue background gives Moomin Mug Peace an especially calm and soft appearance. The illustration features flying birds, a baby carriage and robbers, and the overall mood is peaceful, which suits the mug’s name well. A similar theme was also seen later in the Tenderness mug.

The illustration was selected by Tove Slotte. Elements for it were taken from Tove Jansson’s comic Moomin’s Desert Island and from a postcard illustration created by Tove Jansson in 1982. The decoration brings out ideas of peace and charity, which fits well with the fact that Tove Jansson also collaborated with Amnesty International. Because of these qualities, Peace has remained one of the best-known and most appreciated Moomin mugs of the 1990s.
