This special Moomin mug is one of Arabia’s most popular. The mug shows two iconic images, with Moominpappa fishing on one side and pondering on the other. Interestingly, the early labels read simply “Moominpappa Black”, while later Made in Thailand labels use the more descriptive name “Moominpappa Pondering”.

Mugs made in 1999 have the year mark on the base, which makes them rare among collectors. The black colour gives an elegant look but also makes small scratches and wear more visible. For that reason examples in “super good” condition are uncommon.

Although production ended in 2013, this mug has stayed a favourite, especially with dads, and you can still find it at specialist shops like Finmug in various labels and condition grades. The same artwork also exists as a 0.4 L Moomin mug.

The artwork is based on Tove Jansson’s comic #12 “Moomin and the Sea”. In Arabia’s range this mug brought a fresh look in the late 1990s. In 2013 the series introduced a new design, “Moominpappa Sailing”, followed later by “Grey Moominpappa”.

  • Finland: The label says Made in Finland⭐
  • Thailand: The label says Designed in Finland. Made in Thailand.
