Arabia’s Moomin Mug Moominmamma Yellow is a 0.3-litre Moomin mug that was produced from 1990 to 1996. The same series also includes a plate that is part of a collector’s plate set, as well as a 0.4-litre Moomin mug released later.

Even though the mug’s label says only yellow, this mug is commonly known as Yellow Moominmamma. The mug was produced only with the crown stamp, and there are no year-stamped versions of it. Examples that still retain the original Made in Finland label are rare, sought-after and valuable, because on a mug this old from the 1990s, the label has survived only in exceptionally few cases.

On Moomin mugs from the 1990s, small production marks are often easier to spot than on newer mugs, and age has also brought signs of use to many examples. That is why there are very few mugs of this model in the Supergood category. A completely clean example with no signs of use and no factory flaws is rare among mugs from this period. Even mugs in the Just fine category can, in the case of 1990s mugs, show slightly more signs of use than newer Moomin mugs in the same category.

In the illustration, Moominmamma is shown doing many different chores. She is sawing wood, busy with household tasks, sitting with a boat in her lap, and standing on the shore rocks. It is precisely these everyday moments that make the mug warm in character and easy to recognize. The yellow background gives the overall design a bright look that suits Moominmamma’s calm and caring character well.

The illustration is based on Tove Jansson’s comic Moomintroll and the Golden Tail and the novels Moominsummer Madness and Moominpappa at Sea. From these elements comes the multi-scene design of Moomin Mug Moominmamma Yellow, where both Moominmamma’s everyday activities and the recognizable style of the early 1990s Moomin mugs can be seen.
