Midsummer Moomin mug is the 2016 summer seasonal mug. The same series also includes a plate and a spoon. In addition to the Arabia backstamp, the base has the year stamp typical of seasonal mugs. The mugs were designed in Finland and made in Thailand. This mug is highly valued among collectors because it was in limited supply, and its special summer theme boosts its desirability.
Because the background is light and solid, small factory flaws (like tiny black dots) are easy to notice, so Finmug inspects these carefully. For that reason, the mug doesn’t always reach Supergood grade. The price has already risen, and it’s expected to keep increasing—an excellent investment and a charming addition to any Moomin mug collection.
A note on labels: many labels on Midsummer mugs are transparent and use a slightly different adhesive, so they’re often a bit wrinkled. A “Made in Finland” label makes this mug especially sought-after.
This mug is also a historic piece of Finnish ceramic heritage: it is the last Moomin mug manufactured at Arabia’s factory in Finland.

The Midsummer mug’s artwork is based on Tove Jansson’s popular novel Moominsummer Madness and the comic Moomin’s Winter Follies. The illustration was created by Arabia designer Tove Slotte. Unusually, the outlines include red in addition to the traditional black, giving the mug a unique, fresh look. The design features favourite characters—Snorkmaiden, Mymble, and Mrs. Fillyjonk—enjoying midsummer on a green meadow.
