Hibernation Moomin mug is the 2015 winter seasonal mug and is considered one of the more valuable seasonal pieces among collectors. The Hibernation range also includes a bowl and a spoon. The base carries Arabia’s year stamp typical of seasonal mugs. Unusually, this mug exists with both “Made in Finland” and “Made in Thailand” labels; the Finnish-made versions are rarer and therefore highly sought after. Together with the Winter Night mug, it is the only winter-themed seasonal mug to bear a “Made in Finland” mention.
Because of the palette, small factory flaws (like tiny black dots) show easily, so in Finmug’s inspection Hibernation mugs don’t often reach the top Supergood grade—making truly excellent examples even more desirable.
Its value has been rising steadily and is expected to keep increasing. With its atmospheric, distinctive artwork, this is one of the most popular and respected winter seasonal mugs of the 2010s—an excellent addition for both Moomin fans and collectors.

The illustration is based on Tove Jansson’s Moominland Midwinter. It tenderly depicts Moomintroll, awakened from hibernation, wandering through the dim Moominhouse by the light of an oil lamp, while Moominmamma and Moominpappa continue their peaceful winter sleep. Uniquely, Hibernation is the first—and so far only—winter seasonal mug where the characters are indoors.
