Arabia’s Moomin Mug Drawing is a 0.3-litre Moomin mug that was produced from 1996 to 2002. The same series also includes a plate that is part of a collector’s plate set.

This mug was produced only with the crown stamp, and examples from 1996 also have the year mark on the base. Mugs that still retain the original Made in Finland label are rare, sought-after and valuable, because a label that has survived since the 1990s is exceptional. Drawing is, however, generally considered one of the more affordable Moomin mugs from the 1990s.

On Moomin mugs from the 1990s, small production marks are often easier to spot than on newer mugs, and age has also brought signs of use to many examples. That is why there are very few Drawing mugs in the Supergood category. In examples like these, there are practically no signs of use and no visible factory flaws. Even mugs in the Just fine category can, for this period, show slightly more signs of use than newer Moomin mugs in the same category.

In the illustration, the Moomins are practising drawing and painting, and Little My has, in her usual way, also managed to leave her mark on the wall. The decoration is made up of material from several different stories, which gives the whole mug a lively and slightly playful feel. At the same time, it clearly refers to the Moomin comics, where the boundaries between images were not always separated by traditional panels, but by drawn elements.

The original decoration is based on Lars Jansson’s comic Moomin Winter and Tove Jansson’s comics Building a House and Club Life in Moominvalley. From these elements comes the recognizable look of Moomin Mug Drawing, where both a comic-strip rhythm and the playful everyday life of the Moomins can be seen.
