Arabia’s Moomin Mug Dark Rose, Moominmamma is a 0.3-litre Moomin mug that was produced from 1991 to 1999. There is no actual matching product in the same series for this mug, but fortunately another Moominmamma-themed mug, the yellow Moominmamma, was also released in the 1990s.

Dark Rose, Moominmamma is generally considered one of the more affordable Moomin mugs from the 1990s. This mug was produced only with the crown stamp and without a year mark. Examples that still retain the original Made in Finland label are rare, sought-after and valuable, because a label that has survived since the 1990s is highly exceptional.

On Moomin mugs from the 1990s, small production marks are often easier to spot than on newer mugs, and over the years many examples have also developed signs of use. That is why mugs in the Supergood category are very rare among products from this period. A completely clean example with no signs of use and no visible factory flaws is an exception. Even mugs in the Just fine category can, for this period, show slightly more signs of use than newer Moomin mugs in the same category.

In everyday speech, Moomin Mug Dark Rose, Moominmamma is sometimes confused with the earlier Rose mug, but they are different mugs. The Rose mug is considerably rarer. Dark Rose, Moominmamma is also known as the pink Moominmamma mug, which is understandable, as Moominmamma is clearly the central character in the decoration.

The decoration was designed by Camilla Moberg, whose visual language often features natural stones and different rock formations. The same characteristic can also be seen in her other Moomin mugs. On this mug, Moominmamma is shown doing everyday chores in the garden, by the stove and outdoors among the rocks. The decoration is based on Tove Jansson’s works Moominland Midwinter and Moominpappa at Sea, as well as the comic Moomin Family and the Sea. The overall design makes Moomin Mug Dark Rose, Moominmamma a calm and recognizable part of the history of 1990s Moomin mugs.
