Arabia’s Moomin Mug Fishing, Dark Green is a 0.3-litre Moomin mug that was produced from 1991 to 1996. Even though the mug’s label says only Dark Green, the mug is commonly known as Fishing. There are no other products in the same series as this mug.

The mug was produced only with the crown stamp and without a year mark. Examples that still retain the original Made in Finland label are rare, sought-after and valuable. It is highly unusual for a mug from the 1990s to still have its original label, so the value of such an example may be surprisingly high.

On Moomin mugs from the 1990s, small production marks are often easier to spot than on newer mugs, and age has also brought signs of use to many examples. That is why there are very few Fishing mugs in the Supergood category. A completely clean example with no signs of use and no factory flaws is rare among mugs from this period. Even mugs in the Just fine category can, in the case of 1990s mugs, show slightly more signs of use than newer Moomin mugs in the same category.

In the illustration, Moomintroll is looking for Snufkin to join him for a fishing trip, and it is probably from this mood that the mug’s informal name Fishing originally comes. Sometimes the mug is also called the Moomintroll mug, because Moomintroll plays such a central role in the decoration.

The decoration was designed by Camilla Moberg based on Tove Jansson’s comics. Elements for it were taken from Moomin Family and the Sea, Moomin’s Desert Island and Tove and Lars Jansson’s comic Moomintroll and Conscientiousness. The overall design makes Moomin Mug Fishing, Dark Green a recognizable part of the history of 1990s Moomin mugs.
