Bob and Thingumy Red Rubin Moomin mug was released in 2018, continuing the popular Bob and Thingumy character line. Although the label officially reads “Bob and Thingumy, green”, this mug is more commonly known as Bob and Thingumy Red Rubin because of the clearly visible ruby in the artwork distinguishing it from its predecessor. The same series includes a bowl and a plate. Despite the detailed, eventful illustration, small factory flaws—like tiny black dots—are still fairly easy to spot, so this mug doesn’t always make Finmug’s top Supergood grade. Designed in Finland; mugs with the “Thailand” label are made in Thailand. Versions with the “MOOMIN 75” gold backstamp are rare and especially valuable.

The mug is still in production and is priced affordably, making it an excellent everyday coffee mug. Colourful and story-rich, it’s a great addition both for collectors and for cheerful daily moments.

The Red Ruby mug’s lively, colorful artwork is based on Tove Jansson’s beloved novel Finn Family Moomintroll (1948). The brilliant ruby shown in the illustration is especially significant in the story: Thingumy and Bob carry it in their mysterious suitcase, and the Hobgoblin is seeking that very gem.
