”Siesta” is the summer season moomin mug (0.3L) from 2008.
The Siesta Moomin mug (0.3L) is the summer season mug of 2009.
In 2009, Siesta was released, becoming one of the most popular Moomin mugs. The sunny and calming illustration, capturing the heart of many collectors, portrays a summer day and a contemplative Moomin in a meadow. The light blue and green color palette perfectly reflects the ambiance of a summer day and the lushness of the meadow. Siesta is the fourth in the legendary series of striped mugs.
The mug's illustration is based on the comic strip by Tove and Lars Jansson titled "Moomintroll and the Sense of Duty". The illustration has particularly garnered attention for one detail: in the original comic strip, Moomintroll rests by the tree's root, but in the Siesta mug, the character is changed to Moominpappa by adding a hat. This raises an intriguing question: is it really Moomintroll or Moominpappa on the mug? Artist Tove Slotte chose the original illustration and made this sophisticated change, which remains a mystery to many.
According to Finmug's experience, labels on mugs from 2010 or earlier often show signs of wear or have been bent over time, making pristine labels rare and valued among collectors. The season labels on the Siesta mug doesn't mention the country of manufacture, so it's possible that it was made either in Finland or Thailand.
Furthermore, the Siesta series also includes a beautiful Siesta bowl, complementing this summery mug series. Its popularity among collectors is no surprise, as its illustration and colors make it the perfect companion for a summer day.
